video to dvd
5 Answers
Hi
I'm having trouble burning DVD's from video files.
I have a gadget to interface the video o/p to my PC and can grab the video OK. It saves on my PC as MPG files. I want to be able to edit them (ie take out ad breaks) and then burn them to DVD. Every free programme I seem to try has a problem with the files being in the wrong format for editing or missing VIDEO_TS files when trying to burn.
I am contemplating buying NERO8 but will this do what I want it to do? Is there anything better available free?

I've not had any luck getting it to work on Vista, and use VideoReDo which wasn't free (about 35) but is easy to use and does a great job of slicing out ad breaks etc. I use it to author the whole DVD; the only thing that I'd like to change would be the limited menu options.

You could try Sothink DVD maker which is free. It will convert from a number of video formats as well as create and burn the result onto dvd.

I wonder if my way isn't better. I have a hard drive dvd recorder connected to my tv that archives to disc and plays dvds too.
I can record a programme from tv (or video), edit out unwanted bits, title it and burn to dvd.
My laptop has a tv out card, so I can hook it to the tv and record files from that on to the dvd recorder too.
Not as cheap as your way, but it does save a lot of flaffing
