problems with my laptop

When i turn on my laptop all that happens is a blue screen appears and nothing happens no desktop items thats it. The only way i can get anything, such as the internet is if i bring on task manager and find iexplore.
Could anyone please tell me what is wrong with my laptop,

Right-click the desk top, select Arrange Icons by, then Show Desktop Icons
