Facebook application

Ok seeing past the awfully written spare -eds blog, (which really reads like he is unable to write in English and shouldn't use the term editor as it would contavene the trade description act or something) what is everyone's opinion of the Facebook Application, whatever that is going to be?
It is rather vague and secretive but apparently doesn't involve ruining our teeth . If it were the ability to link our profiles to this site would that annoy you?

So, they've been working on this new version for months and about ten weeks before go-live we're asked about a Facebook link which will "probably be able to do all sorts of wonderful things." Is "probably" filling anyone wi confidence?

It reads like they mean there will be a link to AB on our Facebook home page, they'd have to pay Facebook to be able to do that wouldn't they? Or would Facebook pay Crystal Guides for the privilege of an AB link?

as I am old and thick I don't know what a Facebook application is, Dot, so if it becomes mandatory I will just use yours if that's ok.

Oh right no worries there jno, just be careful with it though my daughter tends to post 'avit' music links and they may be 'bangin tunes' but they are rather monotonous and loud.
You will be able to see about 300 of my holiday pics too btw!

This site is getting more like a Swiss-Army knife wi all the bits added on to it. The thing about a Swiss-Army knife is that you need to mind and leave room for the original blade and Questions and Answers are this site's original blade.

I'm on Facebook but I still don't understand Spare Ed's question. I've been trying to understand it as I suspect I would enjoy making all sorts of wonderful suggestions for what this contraption should do, but nope.

Well reads to me that the site will have a link of sorts to facebook which will mean the site will get some sort of advertising revenues and also will open the site to many more users .
Prepare for an influx of new and wonderful users if that does happen.

If you're like me and dont use facebook then you wont be able to access it i imagine.
Much like when folk post links on here to facebook it comes up saying log in first.
So you dont know whats there if you dont have an account to log in.
Im sure for anyone who uses facebook it will be a wonderful addition and for others that dont it wont make one iota of difference.

Facebook is terrific. It is completely private and comfortable and you can say what you like about anybody. You can post all sorts of pictures and have interesting personal conversations, unlike here.

yes and you can restrict access to your page hopefully, but it is all academic, if it is anything lke the attempt at the last upgrade it will implode.
Anyway, this version we use now is supposed to be 1.5, what was the beta one? 1.75?

Why do we need to wait for the SpareEd to give us an application to join Facebook? Netti has just proved it is possible to complete the application all by yourself and be accepted into their community.

I still don't see why ABTowers would want to encourage ABers to leave and go to Facebook instead? I dread to think what one might find there - thousands upon thousands of holiday snaps perhaps? (Sorry Dot, no disrespect intended - I'm sure your pictures are great.)

I for one won't be going.

I think everyone is getting this the wrong way round,

I don't think there will be any links to facebook on this site, It's a facebook app the Ed is talking (badly) about, so it is something you install on your facebook profile that will then notify you about answers to your questions etc. via facebook.

Chuck, given that sometimes an ab page when you are logged in here takes eons to open, how do they expect us to be on facebook and on here at the same time, or are they meaning we should open facebook and then open here in and out in and out, my laptop will protest!

actually it's just clicked, they mean a 'recent posts box' application can be added to your facebook homepage. ahhhh, still means faffing about like a fleck on a flittin tho but

I assume the technically literate amongst the Masses here will be able to decipher from that exactly what it may mean.

Dunno why anyone on facebook or technically literate is surprised as this has been around for over a year now , so Ab 2.0 seems to just be catching up.
