issue with red screen

I try to go into chat on a certain site and I get a red screen. Someone said I need to download patches from microsoft but I don't know what they mean. It has only recently happened since I have gone onto a mobile broadband. I don't see how that has anything to do with it.
Another suggestion was to have the latest Java installed, but that is already installed.
Can anyone give my any other suggestions (clean ones) please.
