Old lady's getting hot.

Mrs sqad's PC gets hot to the touch and the vents are emitting air.

Is this normal or is it a fan problem

You should be the expert on Mrs Sqad!

Seriously, the question is "Is it a desktop PC and where is it located, plus how long is it left on?" Generally the fan should be venting hot air as it cools the processor. The PC can get hot for other reasons than electrical, if it is in the sun, or near another source of heat, such as a printer underneath it on a computer desk. Check these relative to the amount of heat being emitted. Also is the fan staying on all the time or does it cut in and out, which is what it should do. If it is getting really hot and the fan is staying on then it may be that the interior is collecting a lot of dust which is interfering with the cooling process. Take the top off and using a fine brush remove it. You can get little vacuum cleaners to do the job really well. If it isn't any of these check it out with your local technician.....

if yes ... it's probably muck
PC and laptops are just clever hoovers ... so anything that's in the air is sucked in ... and then finds it easier to stay than get out.

if you're not - just open the box and look
androcles has covered the basics
laptop - narrow vacuum noz over the vents
desktop - vac the psu - and external vents
but then brush the rest out (don't disturb the heatsink or you're stuffed)

then vac the cr@p out of the bottom of the case
