Print Spooler

Just recently when I try to put my computer into standby I get a message saying "The service 'Print Spooler' is preventing the machine from entering standby. Try stopping the service and try again".
What is this & how do I stop it?

go into printers in your control panel, right click on the printer you use and select properties, have a look around in the driver peoperties for a setting that says "Print directly to the printer" and make sure it's selected (rather than spool documents)
