Save Hotel Rica more like, Neti - Drottninggatan (Queen Street) where one of the explosions took place is a cross-street to your old address Kungsgatan (King's Street). The late news says he blew himself up so I guess he must have been the hotel manager>>>>> Evening gang, and quick, hand me some of that Estonian liqueur jno. I had a look for it but we don't sell it here so I may have to take a trip on the Finland ferry just to get a bottle. Sounds delish.

Okay I'll level with yous: I'm honestly going insane. People who don't know me have probably always assumed that I already am, more or less, but that has not been my view of myself and I don't have any psychiatric history whatsoever, but I feel I'll be getting one soon. I won't go into the details as it's dragging me down, I'll just say we're going from bad to worse and they're now planning to poison us (see, said I was mad) with some machine that's needed, because of the cold, to harden the concrete. This machine will emit exhaust fumes like you had a truck on your window sill and make a helluva lot of noise for a month, and because of the plastic the fumes will be hanging around, trapped. This will go on for a month, night and day. After that's done, they will paint the facade, still under the wrapping. And, when googling for how long it takes to harden concrete, I found that demolition of concrete (which they finished a while back) can be a severe health hazard, and that has raised my anxiety level about a million degrees. The man at the firm had assured me it was harmless. As I've told yous before, I have one window and one ventilation... erm... thingy, and they both face the wrapped scaffolding i.e. the building site as it were, and so of course I have had to let air in now-and-Fluffing-then. (Which he had said would be all right.) More breathing concerns is the last thing I need, I have that already although I haven't mentioned it on here as I'm the John Wayne kind of biddy and I
(cont.) [...] John Wayne kind of biddy and I don't want to dwell on the subject and that's that, I'm telling you these things cos you have to know I'm practically insane right now, but I DON'T want to talk about the situation any further, it's too stressful so I'm closing the subject right here, I'm just informing you so you know why I can't keep up.

...but any-hoo, I told my sis I was (and this is the truth) contemplating commiting a medium size crime to put me in jail for a couple of months till all this is over. We agreed I should come and stay with them for a while instead as I've never done anything criminal before lol (well almost not), but I know they don't want me there for several months (which is what we're facing here) so I've decided to declare war on the landlord. I'll do everything I can to stop this nonsense till spring, when they'll be able to work without the plastic wrapping and without the monster machine. Fighting this war may mean I may have to hang around here for a little longer than I'd like to, and also my sis is being laid off after 33 years at the same place of work so the situation is chaotic down south as well right now. Sis and I will end up in the same asylum methinks. Hope Jack Nicholson's there too.

Will be looking out for the mailman, Shaney:) /Biddies let's get Vinny good this time: This is for the cup size choir, hippie! http://www.youtube.co...m/watch?v=0aERUfpAOV8
Kit, do you have any equivalent of a citizens advice bureau who might be able to inform you of any legal rights you may have ? (I can't imagine Sweden not having them.)
Just looked that up on Wikipedia jno, no I don't believe we have anything like that. You can get 15 minutes free legal advice at the municipality's office in your own particular district but I tried that once a couple of years ago and it was honestly crip, I could have googled those answers myself.
...in fact I already had googled them ha ha.
hey swedie, hang on in there! Just moan and bitch away all you like on here, we are your safety valve. Come to think of it, they may as well blow up the Rica Hotel, damn people kicking us out!! I hope the little market next to it was safe, I liked that little place and the cinema!

Morning all!
Isn't there a Health authority there swedie, if it's as dangerous as you think, tell them, and they'll sort it!

Poor Robi, having tinnitus must be a nightmare, I hear "mashed potato" but luckily I can ignore it, just a constant light droning in my head, but that could be madness!
am just catching up on Corrie haven't seen it seen wednesday. very good, I must say. Never had any time for Claire and Ashley but his death and her mourning has bought me to tears.
Morning all...bit dull & chilly here.

Kit you've been patient & boogered on far longer than I would but something needs to be done for the sake of your health, it's a ridiculous situation. Didn't they move you out when alterations were being done before? Or did you move yourself out? Here in England I'm sure alternative accommodation is made available for those who want it...and if not it's up to the tenants as to whether they find their own bolt hole or stick with it. In your case there'd be uproar & the local paper, radio, tele would be on to it. This image of the British soldiering on isn't true anymore from what I can see...if there's a case for complaint we do it, big time stylie.

Yes, I agree about Corrie neti, some of them do their best work when the storyline is gritty. The only time I ever liked the ditsy hairdresser (Natasha) was when she was angry, she was great at that.
Good grief Kit .That sounds horrendous .Day and night ? This is more than a Biddy can stand.
Have you a local councillor or MP you can speak to ? There must be some form of complaints procedure ,after all, you gave us the Ombudsman :)
How do the other folk in your building feel about all this ,can't you all get together and make some sort of protest to the owners .Of course I'm presuming here that you rent .Similar to the German apartment system .Don't you have something called a Medborgakontor .
There's this which I found
http://translate.goog...26hl%3Den%26prmd%3Div
It say you are entitled to "have good indoor air quality, and we avoid disturbing sounds and smells." Pester them !!

If I win the Lottery I'll fly you over here and you can stay with me for the duration .We could visit various Biddys and annoy them :)
Hi Neti, the market was not blown up. There's just been a press conference and it's now official it's a terrorist attack, Sweden's first one. Do you know, only yesterday morning I made a phone call to a shop on that very street where it happened and asked do they still sell such-and-such (trousers) and they said yes but they only had one pair left. For a split second I thought "I'll go in and get them now" but then I asked them to please keep them at the back for me till Monday...
oh, 3 biddies at once! :o)

You see Kit, someone IS looking after you...and ditto everything shaney said.
It's a shame you don't have Citizen's advice, from the experience I've had I found them, patient, understanding, non judgemental & of course, very very helpful, I can't praise them highly enough.
Hi Shaney and Robi, thanks for all your tips and yours too Neti. The "medborgarkontors" no longer exist for where I live, Shaney (that's amazing you googling that, you clever old biddy:) but I'll find another way. About evacuation, they don't have enough places to evacuate too. I am trying to organize a protest among the tenants, I have written a petition for them to sign but the problem is that most tenants here are young (the apartments are small) and they seem to have moved away for the duration, most of them so I may not get so many signatures. Probably gone to live with their sweethearts or maybe even back home to their parents. I definitely intend to take every action I can and I'm so, so disappointed with myself that I haven't tried to stop this before. But I trusted the guy at the firm who said it wasn't harmful and another thing is that in the early days they said the whole thing would be just a couple of weeks... It's dragged on somewhat!

Swedes are very unwilling to "rebel" and we have in the past lived with governments that have protected us by legislation from more than most people wish to be protected from ha ha, so there's a general feeling in this country that "surely they wouldn't allow this if it weren't safe". Unfortunately, that's not true anymore, but people are still complacent if you see what I mean. Anyone who raises their voice is a troublemaker, now could we please get back to watching Corrie (sorry, that was just an example, ha ha). Well I'll be the troublemaker and I wish I'd done it before. But I'm so tired of being the troublemaker. It's always me, always. However, in this case I should have looked past my emotional fatigue at being the Lone Tenant (I've given the landlord legal trouble before you see) and just taken action at the first rustle of plastic wrapping.

Love yous, biddies xxxxx
I feel so sorry for you KIt and there's nothing practical we can do except listen .
I hope my parcel cheers you up .What are you going to do at Christmas ? Surely they won't be kicking up a storm then .
Do you know, as a girl ,I wouldn't have said boo to a goose ,but as I've grown older and seen things and been around the block a bit I have no hesitation now on making my feelings clear if I think I have reasonable cause to complain .
This doesn't apply on AB of course :)
Here I is.... just back from taking hija to airport! relief! I always stick up for myself and family, I didn't think that I always did, but friends say I was always feisty, but certainly am since having my child. yesteday in the long queue at the local supemarket, they opened another checkout and all the people at the back of the queue shoved ahead, so I pushed my trolly to the front and said "I was waiting in the other queue longer, so I am first" well mr N was gobsmacked and almost hid behind the crisps but to his surprise they all backed off and let me through, as it shpould be, one does not mess with a righteous biddy with a laden trolly!!!!
Thanks Shaney I can tell you mean that (as do you all) and it feels good to be among my cyber friends. The socks will be most welcome. Not sure about Christmas, may go to the south of Sweden. About saying boo to a goose and sticking up for yourself, the thing is I've said boo to so many geese in my life and I'm tired of it, tired of raising hell, tired of being either Da Bitch or The Lone This-Or-That, tired of being a Bulldog. But in retrospect, this has been one of the instances where I should have booed away from the start.

This is a screenshot of a slideshow from an online newspaper article about the terrorist bomber in Stockholm yesterday. You can see a shop to the right called Tiara (chavvy name:) and that's where my trousers are that I inquired about and might have gone in for yesterday. The yellow van is the police http://i56.tinypic.com/2yuc2yu.jpg Jeez, I didn't realise it was THAT close to "my" shop! (Drottninggatan is a very long street.)

Yes Neti Mr N really wasn't happy at all was he http://i51.tinypic.com/2r70sus.jpg

and neither were the other customers http://i56.tinypic.com/2gt58p2.jpg
lol @ neti pinching my 'here I is'...that'll be my catchphrase when I'm rich 'n famous :o)...and more lol at Mr N hiding in the supermarket, haha...can you spot him?

Same here shaney, although I did always speak up if the law was on my/our side 'cos my ex, for all his confidence on stage behind a turntable, was hopeless when the business side of life went pear shaped or someone tried to pull a fast one. And having to do things on behalf of my brother taught me a lot...don't take no for an answer when it could or should be yes. Join the Biddyforce today, there's a crimplene uniform & everythin'!...

Wear something purple Kit, it'll give you supapowers :o)
My motto has always been never to accept a No from someone who isn't authorized to say Yes. I've lived by it. It's just the emotional fatigue of doing everything alone, that's all:'(
Oh good shaney, are all we foreign biddies getting pressies in the post, I'll sit by the gate now and wait, and wait and wait.........................................
............
oops, we crashed Kit...(love the lolcats)
The bombing was a terrible thing & as I said before, something kept you from being there. I know how you feel about fighting your own corner...crikey somedays, I just wish some booger else would put the bins out, haha. On the other hand I'm thankful I can still do for myself as much as is needed to survive.
Actually I'm on double bin duty tomorrow as my neighbour's hand is all strapped up after her op....mustn't forget or I'll have to sneak off to the local tip with 'em, haha

Helluva lot of scraping going on next door, they'll be through the wall in a bit, better put some clothes on :o) They keep coming & doing a bit here & there, gonna be a long job at this rate
