I need a job please help!

Hi i am 20 years old, and am currently studying Networking from home, but am interested in getting a part time job in somewhere like currys or comet(somewhere that sells electrical gear).

Yet ive tried getting jobs handing applications in and having interviews at just about everywhere and nothing seems to be working i always get blown out. Ive tried everywhere from asda to wilkinsons even, and have yet to be successful.

im also a little nervous sometimes when i go into interviews, just wondered if anyone can help me here...

I have good qualifactions, good c.v, but need experience in work.

5 high grade Gcse's

1 a level in ict

1 a.s in computing

please help me...

Most people get nervous in interviews, this is nothing to be worried about and many interviewers will expect it.  If you are looking for a part-time shop job, then you should go into every shop you are interested in working in and ask for the manager.  There is no harm or shame in being bolshy and just saying you are interested in working for them, the worst that can happen is that they say 'no'.  Some might like you or your approach on the spot and offer a job, rather than going through the paperwork route first. 

 

The more shops you try the easier it will become, so get out there and get talking to the people who might employ you.  Good luck

Have you thought about joining an agency?, if they are busy the will find work for you usually within a week of signing up.  It might be a starting block for you and helps out with the old beer money

I agree with the agency route, if you are having trouble getting a permanent job through inexperience then get some with a Temp agency, plus if you are known as a hard worker (they do get feedback from most placements) then you can always say you are interested in a full time position and they will already act as references etc.

As for the retail park types - just front up and ask, if you are dealing with the *great* british public then you need to be confident. I worked for Comet as my first full time job, quite enjoyed it really.

If you are wanting to get into IT (which is an incredibly competitive field and not nearly as easy as everyone thinks) then I'd suggest finding a local independant store and helping them out, or trying the councils/educational places as they can't pay the wages that IT people can expect so often will take a flyer on a less experienced but capable person.

Join the Armed Forces.  The RAF would be good choice as you can make good use of your IT skills and its a good way of life with little danger.  The benefits are generally better than you can get anywhere else; minimum of six weeks holiday a year plus all bank holidays and usually all weekends, you get to see the world doing your job, you can even get cheap/free air travel when on holiday, military discount at hundreds of places, guaranteed pay rise every year your in,  the list is almost endless.  Don't be put off by what you think you know about it.  You just need to go and find out.
