Have installed the above and also BitTorrent. Managed to download a movie but now can't get it to play via VLC

What format is it?
does the download file have a valid file extension?

What's the last 3 characters after the "dot" in the file name? avi, mpg for example. Are there any error messages?
What is the file extension (after the name)?

i've just tried a test and the file extension is not important (i removed the extension from a file and it still played), so what happens when you try to play it with VLC?
Only because it was a recognised "container" like an avi

Corrupted file for sure .. VLC will just sit there doing nothing.
corrupt file is what I was thinking but I don't have any of those to test whether VLC throws up an error or just does nothing
Hope it's not something like ThisIsTheLatestMovie.avi.exe size 300k.
It does nothing. Just sits there.
