Well, now we know that you're running a version of Windows, so we're making some progress - Internet Explorer is a web browser, nothing to do with printing...
So, I'm forced to assume that you're running Windows XP, Vista or Windows 7 as they comprise by far the most common usage at the moment...
So, to send a test print to the printer, you'll need to access its property pages. This might be as simple as clicking an icon on your desktop, depending on what was installed when you first connected the printer. Alternatively, look for something like "Devices and Printers", or Control Panel.
Once you've found the printer, right-click on it and look for a menu item or a button which says something like "Print a test page"...

M R - Windows XP in fact. Yes I've got a troubleshooting icon on my pc, Have really done all that. I was soo frustrated with it this aft'n I got on the phone to Epson. They tell me it is nothing to do with the printer its the settings on the pc. I have put up with this prob for some time and the guy at Epson tells me whoever set it up for me must have incurred the prob. (Local p c centre)
I don't know if anything I've said helps but I'm inclined to throw the thing out. Having said that I realised if its the pc at fault a new one would probably have the same prob.
As you have sussed I am not good with the tech side of things soo even if you've got the perfect solution I will have to pass it on to my D to complete.
