I went to Hammamet a few years ago in March or April which you could say is early. We drank in the hotel bar. The beer was not very good. They do not drink there being a muslim country. I lost weight, I must admit it is the only holiday I went on where I came back slimmer than when I set out. It was a hotel buffet for the main course but for pudding the waiter came up and asked did we want an orange or a cake. I said cake expecting a nice piece of gateaux and got given a cake where I needed to put it under a microscope to see it nearly. It was smaller than a French Fancy. Have you booked it already?

Well I asked you if you had booked it because my husband and I did not rate it so that is why I didn't want to give you bad news if it was too late. I thought it was full of perverts that kept honking their horns at me when I walked down the street. My husband thought the beer was crap. We went in March or April and had bad weather. The hotel was a let down. The only nice things about the place was the decoration, beautiful tiling everywhere. I cannot think what you call it but it was nice looking in places. I would not take a chance with the weather there in January if we had bad weather in March/April.

I was very surprised and disapointed to read the replies recieved so far! I have visited Tunisia four or five times, at all times of the year. I was particularly offended on behalf of the tunisian people I have met, and come to like enormously, by the 'pervert' comment! All I can say is that the person who made this must have an inflated idea of their own attractiveness as the tunisians are a very respectful and dignified people and the concept of 'peversion' as mentioned in the review is unknown to them. I have even seen one trader marched off by the local police when he unwittingly placed his arm round the shoulder of a woman he was bartering with in the souk. Sadly the attitude of some UK visitors is more appropriate to the 'lager & chips' holiday of the Spanish costas. This is an AFRICAN country folks with all the wonderful sights and smells that implies. Some of the finest scenery in the world, beautiful seas and beaches and food that is both different and delicious (try the lamb and couscous) The weather may be changable at this time of year, but still warmer than UK. If you want stronger beer than the local 'Celtia' then go to one of the many German Brau-hauses, much stronger and some even brewed in house. You might also want to try Thibarine (drink with a slice of fresh lime) or Boukha, which will blow your head off!! In short- Tunisia is a completely different holiday experience, approach it with an open mind and a smile on your face, and you will be hooked...I promise!!
