upon recently visiting the american embassy ,my partner was found uneligable for a visa ,which we sort of expected however due to our travel agents not giving us the correct infor mation we applied to late ,my question is if my partner tries to travel will the immigration know about the embassies decision ,does it show up when his passport number is logged in at the airport ,my partner has a criminal record which happened 20 yrs ago ,a silly drunken moment which has cost him his annual holiday .

why did he apply for a visa in the first place, very silly of him,the US customs have NO access to the british criminal record system and thousands of people with records enter the usa every year with them, only people with high risk catogory are denied entry to the usa,not someone who was silly 20 yrs ago,i doubt whether the customs would know his visa was turned down, but you never know,if he has paid for a ticket already then i would take the chance,he will only be sent back, not put in prison.
Sorry if it was 20 years ago and he has been refused a visa it's something pretty serious, not a 'drunken silly moment'. They usually ignore things that happened more than about 15 years ago.
