How do they propose to stop people entering the country? How will they know what part of the UK they started from? Will we see Heddlu road blocks on all roads into Wales? More Covidiocy.

Isn't all this equvalent to the Pass Laws that used to be in South Africa? Why would anyone want to go to Whails anyway? It's a dump. They lifted all this in the summer so they could get peoples' money. Now they've got it, they don't want you. But they'll want you back next year. Or rather, they'll want your money. Creoso my armpit!

//That was enforced by police, they were able to identify cars from outside the area," he said.//
How can they do that? I hire a car from Hertz occasionally. They are all registered in one place and they hire them out to people all over the country.
I'm also curious to know under what legislation the police will prevent people from anywhere in England entering Wales. People in the areas of England that are subject to additional restrictions (Tiers 2 and 3) are not prevented from travelling. So they are breaking no laws. It is not against the law for people from England to enter Wales (and nor should it ever be). Could turn out to be interesting.

I’m generally ambivalent however this really is pure idiocy from Boris.
Why could he have just made the restriction?
I live in N. Wales and currently can’t leave my borough.
My partner lives in West Cheshire, currently in the high tier.
I can’t leave, however she is free to pop over to me see me or go shopping at nearby supermarkets whenever she wishes? W T A F?

And I forgot to mention company vehicles (of which there are about a million cars and God knows how many vans. The Registered Keeper is usually a leasing company or possibly the company itself. The driver could originate from anywhere.
Quite frankly I cannot see how this hare-brained idea can be implemented either legally or practically.

//NJ - they don't need to actually stop them entering Wales, all they have to do is to stop every car thus causing delays. Word will soon get round.//
How many entry points are there on the 160 mile long Anglo-Welsh border? Are you seriously suggesting that places like the Severn Crossing will see every car stopped (including those people who live in Wales and who are returning from England)?

So the Westminster government (in this case acting solely to legislate for England) has to impose restrictions on English residents so as to complement Welsh regulations? I don't think so. Welcome to the lunacy that is devolved government. That idea is quite alright when it comes to emptying the bins but falls down a bit when it comes to imposing travel restrictions across a single sovereign nation.

You can edit the cars you stop using ANPR data; not foolproof but would help.
A couple of years ago the Austrians were stopping all the cars on the motorway in from the Czech Republic, looking for illegal immigrants. Enormous queues but word gets around. You don't need to cover all the minor roads; once word gets around that cars are being stopped it puts people bothering to try to go there.

The first miniature is warning the Scots about travelling to England and Blackpool in particular. Not often I sympathise with her but I would advise against travelling to Blackpool. Even without the infection rates that are attributed to visitors there. Donkey must carry the virus then.
