I guess so Tora :0)
Bobbi, one day this will all be over and you can have one hell of a holiday!
Stay for 3 months and chill out!!!
So sorry Bobbi , maybe you have a staycation to celebrate
Question Author
Aww thanks, disappointed tonight but I’ll bounce back ,
We’d do that in a heartbeat Sharon but we have Miss Lola to consider :0)
Sorry to hear this Bobbi. But it was such a strong possibility, as you knew.
Take Mr B to a terribly posh restaurant...get the rest of the family in too. And enjoy...you've got each other.

Now that’s very true Pasta, wherever we will be on the 13th, we will make it a special day for him
my daughter eventually arrived in Lisbon yesterday after a passport dingdong in Amsterdam. What they are going to do, I have not yet heard.
Question Author
Oh Gosh, DT I hope they’re able to board a flight back, such a worry x
they may stick it out....students, albeit he has a good job too.
Question Author
Well whatever the outcome, I hope it’s a good one
This is of course a disappointing outcome but you will have known this was always a possibility. Perhaps you intended to go to Lanzarote for the temperatures, but if not there is an alternative. Flights to Iceland on easyjet from either Gatwick or Manchester are going for between £70 and £100 return. Iceland is practically Covid free and has some spectacular attractions to offer, some of them once-in-a-lifetime ones including an erupting volcano you can walk to (3.5km each way from the public road) or fly to by helicopter - and, if you can get a certificate to say you are fully inoculated against Covid, you don't need any tests prior to arrival. Hotels are becoming booked up later in the summer but for mid June there are rooms to be had in most areas. Returning to the UK you don't need to go into quarantine either as Iceland is and almost certainly will remain green unless the UK government changes the definitions or else bans travel altogether. If you do go, try to notice, if you can, things about organisation of the place and how ordinary people live (standard of living and what is taken as given/guaranteed) and then compare with the UK, starting with looking at the graphs, etc. on covid.is (available in 11 languages.....).

I’d like to see theNorthern lights Karl.....but this holiday was for the love of my life,so his choice where to visit
My elder daughter has already put the holiday in Croatia that she booked last year 'on hold'. She then booked a week in Portugal a few weeks ago - the only good bit is that the balance was due to be paid this Sat., so she's negotiating. Unfortunately it's getting hard to book anywhere in UK now. This is mild compared to some folk.

There is a family in our village which runs a holiday business in Portugal (son lives there all the time - parents go over regularly to help etc..). I saw the dad last week and he said his wife was setting off this week to help (she also has another job in the tourism industry there and they need the money to cover travel etc.). I dread to think what he'll be saying next time I meet him. It was bad enough that she was going to have to pay hundreds extra for tests. There is an aged parent here who needs visits etc.. A nightmare.
Bobbi - it's awful for you as well. Why not plan a really good day out with a lovely meal at the best restaurant you know to round it off. I really feel for you as well. As I said, or should have, it's an intolerable and unsustainable situation.
Don't know why anyone would consider going on a plane this year with all the hassle of masks, testing etc. Its just not worth it. It spoils the whole holiday experience.
Question Author
Thanks jourdain, he will indeed have a memorable birthday
@ Dave, I was in Lanzarote in October, masks weren’t a problem , plane wasn’t a problem ( I didn’t catch Covid from it anyway) the sooner this country starts moving again.....the better!!
bobbi, does your man have a Plan B for when his first choice didn't work out?
The problem here is that some don't know when to stop drinking, start fighting and think they are exempt from local laws. The police are beginning to become less tolerant with them
Question Author
Jno, he’s never said , we will talk about it tomorrow
Karl's right, Iceland is interesting; the food's nothing special but you can go whale watching or see the fault lines between tectonic plates.
