Renewing passport urgently

I've been a little stupid...my passport has expired, and I'm travelling in a few days. I've booked an appointment at the London passport office for a renewal-while-you-wait. I'm trying to book train tickets now, but have no idea how long the process will take. Does anyone know how long it takes? Any help is much appreciated...

Anything from an hour to all day - not much help there sorry

If you are travelling in a few days the likelihood of you getting cheap train tickets is not high. You might be lucky, you might not. Don't assume you have to book - walk on tickets (savers, etc) are the same price on the day..

I got a passport in one day five years ago. This was at Liverpool and it was ready four hours after my initial interview.
