Can you use a UK bank debit card which has switch, cirrus and maestro in New York for purcashing in shops, retsurants, hotels etc.

yeah when I went I had no problem using my switch card (also cirrus and maestro) - so long as you check they take it - but all big stores will

Yes thats right, in NY they accept maestro everywhere, as long as this is written on your switch card you will be fine.
