Car Hire Charges

Can anyone explain why it costs 189 Euros per week for Ford Mondeo Manual, and 499 Euros per week for the same vehicle with Auto gearbox? This from Budget Dublin Airport. I expect all the big boys charge the same. Why the difference??

I am no expert, so this is an educated guess -

I would think that automatic gear boxes are more expensive to service and maintain than manuals, so this is relfected in the price charged to customers to drive them.

You could be right Andy, although I've been driving autos for 30 years trouble-free. Perhaps I'm lucky.

They have Manuals literally running about everywhere.
Autos have to be found and shipped/moved. There are probably only a few.
Just ask them what the cheapest family saloon is .. in Auto if you have to have one.
