Why? why? do they have students or indeed young people to take on the Eggheads, as they have no chance at all of winning.
Even students who compete on the subject that they are studying invariably lose as their breadth of knowledge is limited.
Only mature teams seem to beat the Eggheads because of their wide breadth of knowledge and life.
Any quiz show where money is involved is going to have at least part of the selection process related to finding "interesting people on TV", as opposed to "actually good quizzers". If you want to see good (and bad) student quizzers, go watch Uni Challenge. That's what it's there for, right? Remember the Trinity Team from a couple of seasons back? Utterly amazing.
They're giving multiple choice questions to people who are already brainboxes and know the answers anyway. No wonder most of the Eggheads are still in it after the first stage. Meanwhile, most of the challengers are out of it. I gave up watching it a couple of years ago, but presumably the Eggheads are "still playing for something money can't buy - that's the Eggheads reputation"?
