Well he is a tory toff and former deputy leader of the Conservative party.
One would expect a gentleman to have a varied wardrobe.
Now if he was formerly a labour party leader he would wear a donkey jacket or a cloth cap and a boiler suit. :-)
...and the programme would be called 'Great Railway Punch-Ups'
Its the trousers I find most ............ intriguing

LOL Retro.

Actually, Portillo is a Tory that I have a lot of time for. I am a bit of a railway buff I suppose and I have enjoyed all his train journey programs immensely.

There was a recent thread on Portillo's wardrobe and most, if not all of his jackets are linen ( and very expensive). So its generally accepted that there must be a production assistant just out of camera range, with a permanently hot steam iron at the ready !
No need for a steam iron. Just stand next to the steam exhaust valve of the loco !! :-)

Yellow or pink trousers do take a fair degree of nerve to wear in public, I agree Ric !

By the way, for those that missed the last thread, here is his tailor..seriously nice clothes !

I've been watching Chris Tarrant's railway journeys. Very interesting. He ended up at Guantanamo Bay last time.

Fiona Bruce takes my award for jackets - awful ones.
I am wondering when Ed Balls will resurface.
A man like Portillo who was a high profile casualty of democracy but who also like Portillo is a highly engaging character with wide interests outside politics.
He'll surely follow El Portillo's path into TV etc

Naomi...hope it doesn't take Tarrant 13 years to get back home !
I hope it does Mikey. !! ;-)
I have a Samaritans colleague who is always colour co-ordinated down to his socks. Wears some beautiful colours - first time I met him he was in salmon pink trousers with matching v-neck jumper. He wore it with a blue/yellow striped shirt underneath. Was a bit taken aback, but after 7 years I'm very used to it and he brightens up a dull day. He has a turquoise linen jacket which is the envy of all the male volunteers. His Hawaiian shirts were bought guess where...............of course Hawaii when he was on a cruise.

Maggie...if I had Portillo's money and I wasn't 19 stone, I might be tempted to have a look in Volpe myself ! The stuff on their website looks smashing.
It all adds to the entertainment, his colourful outfits are great this programme will never be stationary with his lines in style!
Five different jackets tonight, pink. striped, blue. yellow. salmon
