Camera Not Recognised On Computer

I have got an Olympus FE-210 digital camera which I bought about ten years ago. It will take photographs, but it is not recognised on my computer. I don't have the old disc which came with it from when I had Windows XP. I now have Windows 10. I have tried to download Olympus drivers, but they will not download, and I don't know whether that is the problem. I went back to the shop to ask their advice, but the woman working there didn't have any clue about what to do. The people who used to know about cameras don't work there any more. What can I do?

Has your computer got a slot to take memory cards (many have)

If so take the card out the camera and put it in the computer slot and lok at the photos that way.

This assumes the camera uses a "modern" memory card and not one that is no longer supported.

You're doing it the hard way!

It's never a good idea to connect a camera to a computer nor, indeed, to use the downloading software that's sometimes provided with digital cameras. You tend to end up with a very slow, and rather unreliable, method of transferring image files.

It's always far better to remove the memory card from the camera and to insert it into the computer's card reader. Then you can simply move image files in exactly the same way that you would with document files or anything else.

A quick bit of googling shows that your camera uses the (now rare) xD type of memory card but most card readers should be able to handle it without any problems. If your computer hasn't got a built-in card reader, a USB one shouldn't break the bank!

My Fuji digital camera uses XD cards. This is an example of the type of reader you need. The one I have has slots for different types of card.

If you are still wanting to try and connect your camera to your PC you need to configure the Camera Settings for PC Mode, if you have not already tried that.
