Hi, my partner received an email from an address that was similar to mine and by that I mean the prefix was the same... but was different after the @ sign. The email asked my partner to click on a link. The email was signed my name... Thankfully he didn't click on the link. Has this happened to anyone else? How would someone beable to link us?

I suspect they got your e-mail address, which they changed, and your partner's too.
To get the pair is suspicious. Has your PC been infected in the past ? Have other friends/family received anything similar ? Have you changed your e-mail password ?
Happens a lot- sometimes the spam comes from a friend's true email address, sometimes from the same username but a different bit after the @ sign. I guess someone's address book has been accessed at some stage. Changing passwords does no harm but doesn't always solve the problem once someone has taken the address book details
