What this in reality means is that UK practices are pretty unique and the inference is that the UK is a sort of Bermuda triangle where the laws of physics are also unique. This is particularly true with plumbing and electricity - other nations seem to be blissfully free of the cult-like rituals observed in UK - but the regulations are to be taken seriously nevertheless because they are to some extent backed up by law. The regulations are however very slowly changing in the UK and drifting toward the rest of the world. Soon (i.e. within a few decades) you will not need the currently stipulated elaborate earthing system as global physics reveals that two continuosly (electrically) connected bodies need not be very prominently earthed at multiple points - you need not provide for the impossible or even the very nearly totally impossible (what have you missed, or conversely, where would you stop ?).
Hi clasmi, Unless you are a registered electrician it is illegal for you to do any work on earthing upgrades or alterations to a circuit in a special location ie: bathroom or kitchen, call an electrician in to do this,if you are caught it will mean a trip to court and a hefty fine, and I am not talking a couple of hundred pounds, leave it alone, you don't know what you are doing,it is not only illegal it is dangerous, take care,Ray
PS, sorry to be so blunt,I am only trying to help you.
