Safety Last ?
While browsing the B&Q website I came across this page, which lists over two dozen items subject to danger warnings and product recalls. I find this quite alarming - whatever happened to rigorous product testing. The new "Fast Buck" approach I presume - perhaps if these faults were given maximum publicity instead of being hidden away like this the manufacturers concerned would clean up their acts.
Incidentally, I've no reason to believe other DIY stores are any different.

Many of those recall notices have been on the B&Q website for years, meaning that probably only one or two are added each year, at most. Further, some relate only to 'poor product quality' (such as the 'Blooma Picnic Chair in assorted colours', where the recall notice relates to sales in 2011), rather than to specific safety issues.
Given the vast range of products sold by B&Q (including many with obvious potential safety issues, such as power tools, electrical items and chemicals), I see that list as reassuringly small!
