Getting excited about the chimney sweeps visit where all us kids would stand outside and cheer when the brush appeared at the top of the chimney. Penny sweets, like gobstoppers and sherbet dabs. Making "bogeys" which were like a gocarts made of planks crates and pramwheels. Playing out all day with little restriction.

I too remember being told off by a policeman because I didn't signal with my hand when turning a corner on my bike ! When I think of what they get away with now !

Real candles on the Christmas tree, lit carefully once each evening by Dad with his box of matches. We switched off the main light to appreciate the scene and us kids took it in turns to blow them all out.
