Did the Gov advise the public to go for diesels as they were Climate Friendly? I now see that they want older dervs to go on the scrappage scheme, are they prepared to cover the full costs that they had the people incur with the change? or is this another UK Rip Off?
TWR it's not 'conning the public', the advice to 'go diesel' was based on what was known at the time.
We keep seeing people on AB (Usually the same ones!) complaining about diesel engines but it is never made clear that all the talk of scrappage, surcharges, bans ONLY applies to older diesels sold before 2015. Modern diesels that comply with Euro6 are not and will not be affected.
The government then was advised by the same scientific advisers who advise the government now! The advice changed 2 or 3 years ago. It has nothing to do with politics!
The just did what they were advised to do! If it had been a Conservative government they would have done exactly the same!
Why do people keep bringing politics into things that have nothing to do with politics?
If the scrappage scheme is introduced (which does not seem likely now) the plan was to offer between £1000 and £2000 against the cost of a new low emission vehicle. It would only apply to cars more than 10 years old. Few cars of that age would be worth more than £1000 to £2000 so it seems fair to me.
