Laptop Jumping Typing

Normaly I use a desktop, but recently bought laptop. When I type, after a couple of words, the typing jumps. either a couple of inches above, or sometimes below.
Could I be doing something wrong ? or have I pressed a wrong key, or maybe I haven't set it up properly.

Possibly you are brushing against the fingerpad, or whatever it is called.
Yes Hopkirk is right, you will be catching the touchpad with your wrist as you are typing. It used to happen to me a lot, so I disabled the touchpad and I now use a mouse and it has solved the problem!
Yes, when I was reduced to having to use a laptop it became so frustrating that I used to turn the touch pad thingy off. I reckon that they only put them on for a malicious laugh.
