Can’T Get Sky Broadband

I am a Sky TV subscriber, and did a preliminary search to see if I can get The Sky broadband and free line rental. Declined. Reason was I was not in the broadband area?
Was it because I don’t have a landline number. I still have the overhead cable from a pole. Haven’t had a number for many years. Didn’t see the point as I have a mobile. TIA.

Sky broadband comes via a landline - nothing to do with satellites.

All SKY internet services come via a BT phone line.

If you haven't got one, and don't want one, then SKY won't be interested in your application, as they can't provide you with a connection.

Bob, as I see it, you live in Spain ( although you are in South Wales for a little while...am I right ? )

So, is this for your Spanish home, or your Welsh base?

I understand that part of it bhg. What I meant to say is, you’ve got to have a landline BT or whoever number to get it. ie, get an operational landline number.

Bob....yes, although you don't have to use the line for telephony....just need it for the 'net connection.

As said I still have a line to the house but don’t have a landline phone. Part of the application asks for the phone number.

I would go back to SKY and tell them that you understand that you will need that landline and see what they say.

But, beware that they may not be able to offer very high speeds, unless you are supplied by BT, by "fibre-to-the-cabinet".....I can explain that if you wish !

I don't think there's any advantage having Sky broadband because you have Sky TV; they are, effectively, two separate entities. We have Virgin TV and TalkTalk broadband because that's what suits us best. BT Outreach supply all the broadband lines except those used by Virgin and BT Outreach is legally a different company from the BT that provides broadband service.

BHG....yes I agree....no technical advantage but there may be a financial one.

Although Openreach is now a separate company from BT, Openreach is only the engineer involved in supplying the connection. All the kits and cabling involved is still the BT network.

Bob needs to investigate all the different companies that can supply him with a 'net connection, including BT itself.....but a duo-service with SKY may still be cheaper.
