I assume you mean Butlins. People get sent to prison as punishment; not for punishment is something that is often quoted when this matter arises. We are punishing them by sending them to prison and depriving them of their liberty. I would hate to be locked up for a week, let alone months or years. Prison should also be a place where there is a chance for people to be reformed.
