An Evening Of Hell.
I was on my laptop this morning, no problems. After a boozy lunch decided to go for a lie down. Woke up five hours later and laptop seemed to be fine. I found that while I could refresh the tabs I had open I could not access any other links. Nor could I shut down in the normal way, I had to force a power cut yet my mobile dongle still kept flashing, suggesting the power was stll on. To cut a long story short it has taken me over three hours staring at a black screen, despite pressing the power button at regular intervals before it once again burst into life.
I don't know whether this has anything to do with my laptop (HP Stream) or Windows 10, but it's driving me mad. As I am more or less housebound I was planning to book a taxi to PC World tomorrow, not my favourite emporium but I need the internet.
Any advice?

Only wanted to be able to use email and get internet when on holiday or away from home etc. I was lucky in that the weekend I went to buy it there was a very good offer on at Currys and I got a much better specification set up for only £80 or so more than I was originally going to pay. Was I glad. 6 months later I was in hospital for 3 months and the ability to watch films either via the dvd player or by streaming was a godsend. It is still bouncing along after 6 years and runs W10(after I upgraded)and runs updates with ease. ITB hard drive.
Have a look at this for the same money Jackdaw.

Ahh just seen you hare gone for the higher spec one of the 3 listed. Will be better than you current set up anyway. Just keep away from the bolt on 3rd party "security" programmes and you will have far less trouble. I know that I have said this before whilst others advise all sorts of third party add ons. You don't need them. If you are banking online, you will likely be advised to install Trusteer end point. Do so, it does not set up conflict with Defender at the expense of capacity and speed of the laptop.
