Has your lawn recovered from the summer dry spell yet? Ours is still very patchy and I wonder if it will come back eventually. Just needs a bit more time perhaps?

Ours is still patchy but I was amazed at how quickly in went green...almost overnight.

We left ours to its own devises and it went totally straw like. Its come back this week in some areas, but others are still dry and brown.

Hi, Maydup........mine didn't suffer at all.....but I may suffer when I get my water bill....and I did feed it more than usual......but it's worth it.... :-)

I have noticed that neighbour's lawns are coming back with large black patches though...x

We left ours to its own devices because we went away for sixteen days. When we came back, it resembled the Sahara!

Tilly . . . you only have to look at the wildlife progs on the Serengeti before and after the rains. Give your lawn time. It will come back o.k.

As long as my lawn has grass, I don't really care about the state of it. It would be glorious to have a beautifully manicured lawn but as a dog owner, that is never going to be possible.
I prefer dogs to lawns.

My neighbour has gone down the full "Monty DonTichHamiltonDimmock" route and watered, scarified, weedkillered, top dressed, reseeded and generally pimped up his lawn - he even has bits of string all round/over it with CDs hanging from them to scare off the birds who are eating his seed.

It now looks fecking awful with big black patches all over.

I have left mine to its own devices for the last three months or so - actually mowed it yesterday to control the weeds a bit & it is now beginning to look OK again - in fact it looks far better than my neighbour's - he is not best pleased :)

Life is too short for manicuring a lawn, for sure. I love the fact that ours is riddled with violets in the spring and they have come back thick and fast after the dry spell, so theres hope for the grass yet.

my back lawns recovering but the front lawn is still very brown,its on a slope which dosn't help.Am hoping it will recover but if not i will have to reseed it next spring.

My has been fine all summer and I never water, I just don't cut to within half an inch of it's life. leave the grass longer and the and the leaves protect the roots and ground from the sun. Severe manicuring is the cause of all the brown lawns when it's hot.

You're right John, one of our neighbours cuts the lawn really low and it suffers badly every summer. This year though, we'd only given a high cut once or twice in April before the long dry months of May, June and July simply burnt every area of grass.

Mine also went brown but that didn't worry me none, 'cos it gave me a break from mowing.
Now after several weeks and good spell of rain, its greening up nicely again, so today, I got familiar with the mower again.
Just the odd brown path now but I'm sure they'l soon green up too.

mine is greening up nicely. It will probably get one or two cuts more this year as I like to keep it long and wild

Never water a lawn/grass. Yes it goes brown but it always recovers. Ours is still patchy and manky and some bits look as if they'll never recover but I have every faith that they will over the autumn/winter and then we'll be cursing because they need mowing again!

Ours is recovering but the problem is that where there were brown patches there is now a huge amount of clover developing. I can't understand why when the grass wasn't growing, the weeds were flourishing!
