Yes I think you're right, Jim. The hurdle for conviction is very high and it would be useful to have "We know you did it but there isn't quite enough evidence to send you down" :-)
Never done JS but sat in public gallery at Leeds CC and watched a murder trial unfold (happened on a farm in N Yorks). Found it fascinating and disturbing in equal measure.
