im never eating eels again after what i saw on gordon ramsays show last night!!!! i found it quite disturbing that they swallow its still beating heart in japan. interesting though i guess!
I know what you mean - during the break the voiceover warned that there were scenes of castration and tail docking, but I found it harder to watch them cutting up the eels!
And when the head had been cut off but was still opening and shutting it's mouth...... ewww........
Do you think that the Japenese chef really was telling the truth when he said they couldn't feel it? The image of that heart still beating will be with me for a long time!
I can't stop thinking about the head still alive!! shiver.
Sorry - rambling a bit - oldboy is a Korean film. There's a scene in that where the hero goes to a Sushi resteraunt and orders a live squid. Apparantly it was a real squid and the scene had to be shot four times. The eel thing on the F Word reminded me of the scene - in that it was horrible and made me feel guilty about my meat-eating ways.
Yea made me feel really weird after I saw the head and mouth moving and seeing that heart just was pretty disgusting! But I suppose its how they live isnt it! Really made me think though! Bloody horrible if you ask me but oh well! I know never to eat japanese cuisine!!
Yeah but its not just in Japan. Did you see that English bloke who works in the processing place and he said they process 3 tonnes of eel a month! Or was it a year? That must be the worst job.
Grab slimy eel, hack, hack, plop in bucket ... repeat 7 million times!
As a child in the 50's I used to go with my Gran to the local market where you picked out which live eels you wanted and the guy would put them on a wooden block and chop them up in front of you. When Gran got home she would put the pieces into a salt water solution where the 'bits' would then start 'moving' (a reaction to the constriction of the muscles (or nerves - not sure which) due to the salt - I think). I was convinced they were alive. Terrified the life out of me.
we prepared eels at cookery school and it was revolting!!! horrible experience!! the thing that is sticking in my mind from last nights programme is the poor wee piggies!!! i have to admit i cried!! sad i know!!! lol
