Right well basically me and my girlfriend want to go away for a few days in august to either scotland or northen ireland (flying) and well i have photo ID (provisional) that i have used before and my other half has a passport thats out of date....and i was wondering if she could still use it seeings as it would only be either scotland or northen ireland
Where are you travelling from? Most flights won't let you on without a current passport. You prpobably still got time to aplly for one if you use that express service at the post office
Most airlines will accept an out-of-date passport for up to two years past expiry for travel within the UK. Some will accept other forms of photographic ID. There's examples for travel to Jersey here. Ryanair is just being pedantic. If in doubt, ask the airline. (There's always the train, if you're one of the better off!!).
If you book in advance - on the train - you can get good deals sometimes. Worth looking and they go city centre to city centre. So the extra you may pay for the train fare can be saved by not having to get transport to and from the Airport each end.
I thought it didn't matter if the citizen was British and the flight was within the UK? I recently had to call Manchester Airport on behalf of some Polish students and the person said that many airlines will let you fly out of the UK just on your ID, it's getting back where there may be a problem. But Him's not even flying out of the UK.
