tiggerblue10. I do know a bit about othre nuclear power plants around the world. Ive studied the accidents more than the industry as a whole. They are no less safe than other power plants and are inspected by the nuclear governing body for each country rather than a global one. However, to put your mind at ease, it is good to know that the UKs worst disaster was the fire at Windscale in 1957 was our worst disaster which although we had the release of uranium into the atmosphere, there was no lasting damage and it was ranked as a 5 out of 7 on the International Nuclear Event Scale. There have only been two 7 out of 7 disasters which were Chernobyl and Fukushima and one 6 out of 7 which was an accident at Kyshtym which is also in the Soviet Union in 1957.
Although there are small accidents that happen at the plants, there are usually no lasting effects.
