In Ireland the kids weren't allowed to wear new clothes until they'd worn them to mass first. Bad luck apparently! Or just a way to get the kids to go to mass.

The concept of luck is an interesting one. What will happen, will happen. If you think it's good you describe it as good luck, if you think it's bad you describe it as bad luck. Ultimately it's just a description of how things went.
