Did anyone watch the BBC2 programme last night called Exposed: The Church's Darkest Secret. Quite an eye opener. Part 2 is on tonight at 9 pm.

I knew of this as I sat there doing my knitting and a crossword. Identical twins were identically abusing vulnerable young men
using such lines as - your clothes are getting in the way of your prayers reaching god so - - - take them off !
and the gullible young men did - and then years later the young men muse - I always thought there was something wrong with that !
I sat there with my jaw dropping and didnt answer the door in case there was a mendicant there who said - your open jaw is getting in the way...

We must remember that, in order to expose the dreadful behaviour of people in authority, be it church or state, there is the risk of the exposer being accused of having known previously what was going on, and failing to act appropriately and in a timely manner.
The easiest way to avoid that potentially difficult scenario is to carry on ignoring it, and hoping it will just go away.
The Catholic Church, with its well-known and documented history of simply re-locating abusing priests, is the nearest they ever get to actually addressing the issue - which is to pretend that a re-location will prevent its recurrence.
It's rather like refusing to sell a savage child-biting dog, and simply giving it away to someone else.

Didn't see it; but it's not an uncommon problem to decide to look after your own instead of being a whistleblower and damaging your own group. One might hope that a religious group would have higher morals, but self preservation is a strong instinct and not everyone in a religious group will be "saintly". Poor show by the church.
