I watch this programme every week but found tonight's episode especially moving. It was done as a memorial to the holocaust and brought a tear to my eye.

I watched the Boy in Striped Pajamas
and was struck (again) how unlikely it all was

[spoiler]: cute kid digs a 'Russian Sap' under electrified wire without killing himself and then ENTERS a concentration camp and gets gassed]

in reality the Germans as innovative as ever pioneered the concept of Prison Cities in the East - Lviv and Lvov were both ones. The whole city was surrounded by barbed wire and guard towers and no one was allowed to go in or out
one partisan joins a work party on their way back in 5pm- he is identified by the workers of course in order to find out what is going on - and then skips away having joined a work party on its way out the next day 6am
he was the one who lived in a sewer for two years

in 1945 toward the end of the war and the arrival of the Red Army, a guard said to my late father - yes in the Russian campaign we made some mistakes.

we were playing hide an seek with a displaced east european (ex partisan) in 1950 and as we ran down the stairs squealing as youngh kids do = he jumped out of the bedroom window on to the lawn to confront us as we ranout of the house ....

Oh so well done . Bless all the children of that terrible time who are now elderly and still grieving .

It was sensitively handled and flowed well as Great Aunt Maria has featured before - very moving.

Thought the episode was beautifully played. Have always had a soft spot for Sasha
