System Restore

I want to restore my W10 system to an earlier date but I have no earlier dates set so
can only create a restore point dated today! Searching the web for an answer has
not been successful as -despite emphasising NO EARLIER RESTORE POINTS EXIST - I
only get instructions to set a new one.
Please help

Bad news, I'm afraid:
With the wonderful habit they have at Microsoft of making something really simple in an old version of Windows a hell of a lot harder in later versions, some wally has decided that System Restore should be turned OFF by default in Windows 10.

That means that System Restore is no longer available for use by people using Windows 10 UNLESS they've actually activated it. So, since you've clearly never activated it, System Restore has never been working on your computer since the day you bought it (or from the day that you upgraded its operating system to W10, as appropriate).

but it can't help you now as there have never been any restore points created on your computer.
