I know about keeping them in the fridge makes the skin black but does it keep the flesh inside from deteriorating and going too soft and mushy?
Anyone keep their bananas in the fridge?

Yes. It makes no difference to the inside and they last longer. Mine rarely go black though.
No Vagus , I would never keep bananas in the fridge , I actually keep them separate from my other fruit in another fruit bowl, mine never go black
I keep mine in the fridge, in the salad compartment, sealed in a plastic bag, and they keep for a good few days. The skin may discolour, but the flesh remains ok. It doesn't necessarily prolong their 'consume by' date, though.
Always keep mine in the fridge, sometimes they go black, but the flesh inside is always fine no matter how black the skin. I never leave them for more than four days though.
I keep mine in the fridge. Skins go black after about 4 or 5 days. Flesh is still fine for 9 to 10 days.
I should have added, they don’t have time to go black, I’m a huge fruit eater

We eat a lot of fruit too Bobbi, and keep bananas separate from the rest, but this hot spell has seen the bananas really deteriorate very quickly, especially as we only do click and collect once a week.
Thank you everyone, will be keeping them in the fridge from now on, excellent advice :)
Bananas in the fridge? You've got to be joking.
diddly, I have one of these and it really does keep bananas fresh for over a week.

I've never put a banana in the fridge, nor a tomato, but I agree that this weather has reduced their shelf life.

We just eat them up and then wait until next week for some more, buying the greenest ones possible from the farm shop.
I've got one of those Danny, agree it is excellent.
Oh gawd - another gimmick from Lakeland - who has room in the fridge for that many bananas? In any case, when I buy bananas from the supermarket (every week) I'm just pleased if they're ripe enough to eat by the end of the week as they're always sold ridiculously under-ripe so you need to be ahead of the game.
Maydup - I totally agree about never putting tomatoes in the fridge - destroys the flavour and the texture.
My wife loves bananas and insists I buy the greenest ones in Sainsbury when they had a new delivery. Funny. During the war they used Parsnips as a banana flavouring substitute and she hates parsnips. :-(

it is not a gimmick, it works.
If I get my fruit when shopping at Tesco, I will get a bunch that is ready to eat, and another bunch that ripen at home. If I have to put up with what I can buy locally, they are usually on the point of being over ripe.
Usually let a couple of bananas go soft so I can make banana loaf. Never put them in the fridge though.
The best bananas are the really ripe ones barbecued in their skins - delish, especially with salted caramel sauce. Naughty but nice.
Diddly - surely that depends how many people live in a household and how often they eat bananas.

Plus I have a larder fridge....plenty of room.

We got our click and collect today and four of the eight bananas we received have gone in a plastic bag into the fridge. I’d get one of those banana bags but they’re out of stock :(
We shall see how they survive the fridge.
I stopped putting tomatoes in the fridge years ago, totally changes the texture and destroys the taste.
Funny how we’re all different with our food storage solutions isn’t it? No right or wrong, just different.
