Heart Stent
9 Answers
Hi abers, some of you may remember I had a balloon angioplasty and stent fitted 4 weeks ago. That with coronavirus its been a rough ride. Now the virus has virtually cleared (waiting for results) I am concerned about a very slight niggle in he left of my chest, I can only describe it as a twinge or slight nip. I am usually at rest. Its been going on a couple of days, no other symptoms at all, I don't feel unwell or anything. I can sleep with it and it isn't happening all the time. Do you think it's part of the healing process? The net leads you to all sorts of stories but you don't know who to believe at times. Prefer wisdom on here! Thanks... Dagman

Sounds like you may have Variant Angina (VA), which often leads to a stent.
Basically, instead of your arteries getting blocked up through eating fatty foods, with VA the muscles around the arties become weak and collapse blocking bloodflow.
Unfortunately VA is hard to test for. It usually occurs when you are very relaxed, about to go to sleep, and not when you are exerting yourself.
Look it up, and try and tell your doctor you are having pain.

Thanks for your kind replies, I don't feel it is that uncomfortable to be overly concerned, wondered if anyone else had experienced it. With it only occurring now after 4 weeks I imagine if it was serious it would have happened before now. I am waiting for a call back from the heart rehab to get their opinion just to see what they think. Thanks again.
Variant angina, and less commonly Prinzmetal angina, vasospastic angina, angina inversa, coronary vessel spasm, or coronary artery vasospasm, is a syndrome typically consisting of angina (cardiac chest pain) in contrast to stable angina which is generally triggered by exertion or intense exercise, commonly occurs in individuals at rest or even asleep and is caused by vasospasm, a narrowing of the coronary arteries due to contraction of the heart's smooth muscle tissue in the vessel walls.
I have had aortic stents and a quadruple by pass. After nearly two years I still get the odd twinge occasionally.Don't let it worry you. As long as you still have a pulse keep smiling. I still get a bad pain when I sometimes roll over onto my stomach at night. That is where my sternum was wired together after they split it with a surgical angle grinder to reach the old Timex. Still smarts if pressed upon. Answer ? Don't press on it ! :-)
Absolutely Ellipsis, I was called by the heart team, told them everything, very confident there's nothing to worry about. The discomfort, location and frequency doesn't lend itself to a heart issue. They suspect i've overdone it with coughing so much. I am due an echocardiogram on 26th and that will show how I'm doing. Thanks Sqad for reassuring answer. I posted on here as I'm one for not bothering docs etc as they have more important things to do!
