Friend's son is a Consultant Medical Microbiologist and is working on a vaccine. Has been doing so for at least 18 months and he certainly doesn't think there will one before 2022. Hope he is proved wrong, but can't argue with him. For those who always shout "Link" you can see his profile here (Dr Michael Lockhart)

It makes sense to give the vaccine to NHS staff first - after all, they have the biggest exposure to the virus.
As to 18 months or 12 months, the latter was when it was first known that it had broken out in Wuhan. Also covids have been around for a long time and, after all, we are on version 19. One has to remember that SARs is a covid too and, also, folk around the world commonly get infected with human coronaviruses 229E, NL63, OC43, and HKU1.
