I know that you shouldn’t take Ibuprofen for longer than 10 days. If you’ve taken it for 10 days how long should you leave it before taking more? Thanks.

Who said that you shouldnt take Ibuprofen for more than 10 days?

That just isn't true.

Ibuprofen can be taken for years ,particularly for Arthritis and under medical supervision regarding one's kidney status.

Have I missed the point of your question and if so then could you be more specific?
Boto is correct.

The NHS website says do not take for more than 10 days unless you have spoken to your doctor. It can have side effects.
I seem to be wasting my time on AB when websites and offer the solutions.
A bit more info would be useful Boto - taking a couple of Ibus per day for 10 days is not the same as taking the maximum dose for 10 days in a row.

Was it prescribed?

There may be a better painkiller for what ails you.
What are you taking it for?

Thanks for your replies. I took it for groin pain. I took it for 5 days, off for 5 days and then took it for another 5 days as suggested by both nurse practitioner and physio (2 x 200mg 3 times a day). I have now hurt my back lifting my dog. I don’t want the hassle of contacting GP unless it gets worse.
Sqad, nurse and pharmacist both said not to take it for longer than 10 days.
Boto if that is the position in which you find yourself I wouldn't hesitate to continue for another week at least, providing that you are getting no side effects.
It means consecutive days. You clearly didn't if you left five days between two other sets of five days. Just start again.
It's the recommendation, because it can cause stomach problems, including bleeding. If you need it for much longer, there are alternatives which are safer in the long run, and more effective.

Thanks everyone.
Look for a codeine/paracetamol combination. Your pharmacist will help.

With respect, the link was not just any old website was it?

Given a choice between your advice (not that I would ask anyway) and the NHS, I would always go with the NHS.

There are reasons why ibuprofen is not prescribed, and certainly not longterm.
Do you take any other drugs, Boto?

E.g. I take Omeprazole daily (on prescription) which means I can take more ibuprofen.
It can cause heart palpitations - it does with me if I take it for too long
In over 27 years observation, and not being a doctor... ibuprofen is a brilliant medication for a one-off, or even up to about 3 days, in my opinion.
If you need anything more or longer- you need something else.
If I need to take ibuprofen for my RA flare ups I'm prescribed Omeprazole. I would ask your GP to prescribe it if it's appropriate.
