Does anyone watch TV with subtitles? I do, it lately I have noticed that the titles are almost two sentences behind the spoken word. Does anyone else have this? I am sure it hasn’t always been like this as I would have noticed
I do, as even though my hearing is fine, I often miss what they are saying... plus, there is sometimes random noise here. But I'm not finding they are behind at all. Do you need to switch off and on, to reset it?
You could be right Sharon. BBC 2 seems ok. But I will be looking at other channels over the next day or so. I will still try switching off at the wall as well
I watch with subtitles as like Pixie, I don't always catch what people are saying.
There have been no subtitles at all on C5, but I believe there is a reason for that.
As regards to other programmes, there are times when the subtitles are ahead of the speech, and when that happens, I press the rewind button on the remote and then press play.
It doesn't always correct it for the rest of the programme and I have to keep doing that.
I watch TV with subtitles since some people mumble. On live TV like "This Morning" my subtitles have always been several seconds behind. With recorded programmes, like Coronation Street the subtitles are in synch. I have always assumed that the delay is because even a computer takes some time to figure out what people are saying and then to display it. There is obviously some human involvement too, as, when the automatic machine gets it wrong, somebody rewinds and corrects it. I have noticed I haven't been getting subtitles on the Jeremy Vine Show (Channel 5), now I know it's not my TV at fault.
The subtitles are now mostly arddo-generated
and are out of sink most of the time
I use them as a clue to the dialogue
There is correction - but they also give up and just go to the next topic
Beeb very huffy about it on feedback programs - "I am tired of answering questions why the subtitles say Prince Harry is a jihadi" - sniffed one Beeb administrator and the commentator DIDN'T say - well why dont you get it right then?
( Duke of Cambridge's brother Prince Harry = Duke of cambridges' brother is a jihadi
oops! )
