" - yes, they are fractions so if you put a fiver on at 9/2 you get 4.5 * 5 + 5(your stake) so £27.50. 6/4 = 3/2 = 1.5/1 etc etc, most are traditional so we say 6/4 rather than 3/2 or 100/30 rather than 10/3 etc.

for what it's worth,the FT is running a survey - a self-selected sample, of course, but more than 20,000 votes - of who they want rather than who they think will win.

So far: none of the above (comprising the obvious possibles) 23%, Sunak 21%, Tugendhat 12%, Wallace 10%, the rest well back (Cruella and Gove 2% each).
