Word of the day is a reminder of 'ipsedixitism' (18th century): the assertion that something is 'fact' based on one person's opinion.

That's a jolly good word for some Abers, Maggie. :-)
I like the word 'Perichor' which is the smell of damp earth after a long dry spell
That's just gone down on my list - along with recent additions; petrichor and cacovelia.
Just finding the right occasion to use them:-)

That would be 'petrichor', fourteen85.
next time doris criticises me i'm going to call her an ipsedixitist

Question Author
fourteen85 - I like that word too. Many years ago I was totally flummoxed by a crossword question and after much searching found the answer - petrichor.
petrichor has just come up somewhere - smell of rain
petros ( rock of course)
ichor - the nourishing fluid of the Gods ( what about nectar?)

cacovelia doesnt come up on Google
judges go in for ipsedixitism bit time
other wise called "judgeitis"
first comes up in Rumpole but still hangs on in legal circles they say
'Moiety' doesn't get dusted down and used as often as it might.
"Cacovelia doesn't come up on Google."

That's because it's Cacozelia. Soz:-)
I rather like pulchritudinous. One of the Test Match Special guys used to use it, Henry Blofeld I think
Ichor- fluid like blood in the veins of the Greek gods also defined as a watery discharge from a wound
This thread has got me quite discombobulated.
