Not yet confirmed by No 10, but if this is true then that's a massive shock.

It's high time that Tories, like me, admitted that this is the biggest political *up in generations. No more excuses, no more having a go at Labour.

Not the hokey-cokey but a stellar hand jive.
This old Tory wants a Labour government. Never, for once, did I ever think I'd say that.
It's necessary, Paigntonian, as Labour needed to get over Thatcher and the Tories needed to get over Blair.

The trouble is, in both cases the parties reverted in opposition to hardline ideological purity and it took several elections before they were once again in a position to win one.
Thanks Jim. Appreciated. I really am upset about this fiasco. How dare my Party treat the British people like this?
Despite all the hot air we still don’t know who did the ‘manhandling’ then? I wonder if whoever used that term is just as purposefully mean spirited and petty as those who insisted that a slice of cake constitutes a ‘party? Funny old thing, language.

Paigntonian, I would never wish a Labour government on this country but my words have certainly come true. The country has indeed been thrown under a bus.
the parties were a bit more than a slice of cake naomi… did you forget about the vomiting and the wine-stained walls and the suitcase full of booze and the coke that was found in the parliamentary offices?

besides wasn’t it therese coffey who is alleged to have done the manhandling? She denies it of course but chris bryant used that word in parliament when he called for an investigation
I don’t recall the last PM being involved in any of that, untitled, but I seem to recall him being fined for being given a slice of cake minutes before he was due to attend a meeting.
“I saw members being physically manhandled” - Bryant in parliament last night… urging the speaker to investigate
he was fined for attending non-distanced gatherings at a time when they were illegal yes… he also presided over downing street that was having boozey parties on a regular basis and numerous attendees said that he knew about it
As I said, language is a funny old thing.

Some clearly can’t distinguish between a party and a gathering of a group of people indoors who were not socially distanced as required by law.
Party, shindig, get-together, bit-of-a-do, soiree, call it whatever you like, it broke the law in the eyes of the Police.

Absolutely! If only there was someone to blame for the last 12 years?
As for the last 3, historically the worst in terms of events and actions by a government (that have been unprecedented) it’s fairly obvious the Tory Party have thrown this country under the bus with the most outrageous and reckless behaviour ever seen by a governing party, one that has seen our standing in the world diminish to zero and our democracy widely viewed as a laughing stock to all and sundry.
The blame lies squarely at the door of the Conservative Party who are now destroying themselves with their division and infighting being played out on the world stage, leaving our reputation in tatters.

For gods sake go and go now!

Language like unlawfully prorogued, illegal lobbying, law-breaking, illegal gatherings/parties, cover-up, denied having knowledge, predatory sex pest, food banks, children going hungry, bankers bonuses a priority, more austerity, disastrous fiscal experiment, ineptitude in office, increased mortgage, tanked economy, reputation in tatters?

Nothing funny about language at all.

You're welcome, Paigntonian. I'm sorry that you have to watch this. I'm no fan of the Conservatives, that much is clear, but watching them have a meltdown like this isn't funny when they are also in Government.

It's beyond hope that they're able to sort this out, now; and, likewise, it's hard to see how they can realistically back or force a General Election, when doing so at their lowest ebb would be a disaster for the party. So we're reduced to watching this farce play out.
There were rumours that the opposition last week that the opposition were preparing a motion of no confidence in the government… surely the present situation is exactly what such motions exist for? the ruling party is unable to rule.

is it certain anymore that the government would win it? we’ve had notable tory mps calling for a general election….
