Just watched this on BBC2 - Dwight D Eisenhower thought it the greatest movie of all time.
Burl Ives' portrait of a man who had more moral fibre, sense of decency and sheer integrity over-shadow the role taken by Charles Bickford in every way. Ives deserved his Oscar for best supporting actor.
Apart from an excellent cast, we thoroughly enjoyed the music and photography - there are some very clever shots. The grand fight between Peck and Heston was credible as a bare-fisted fight without distraction. Smiled at Heston when he says to Peck "...you take a heck of a long time to say goodbye."
I will be watching that again before it falls off the iPlayer :) Anybody else enjoy it?
Yes I've watched it today Choux and thoroughly enjoyed it. Westerns are not normally my sort of thing but the 5* write up gave me a push. The scenery was stunning and at nearly 3 hours long I had plenty of time to enjoy. I can't fault it. Like you I may watch it again.

One of my all time favourite films, absoluetly brilliant casting (even the 'baddies'), made the year before I was born!...and I still fancy Jean Simmons!!!
Glad sdds enjoys the film, Jean Simmons was quite the beauty. Though she died in America she was interred in Highgate Cemetery - quite a simple grave. Born in 1959, sdds? Lucky you, lol.
