interesting that in "Network North" the bulk of saved cash from HS2 was being used to fix potholes. mmmm. CAPEX being transferred to the maintenance budget, something that would be against the investment regulation protocols of most large companies.....

in view of the tories scorched earth policy and labour's non-committal to attempt to salvage (some of) the project, including Euston, ironically probably the best thing that could happen to HS2 is that Old Oak Common is turned into a freight forwarding depot, and the route is then dedicated to long distance freight services.
It's poorly named, people have focused on the 20 minutes claim but the real purpose is to take passengers off the old line and leave that for freight.
all true, but it was the government that chose to market the 20 minute claim (and name it High Speed 2), so it's no wonder people focus on it
