Suggestions please for a perennial flowering climber for a pergola, we already have , Clematis, Wisteria, Jasmine, climbing roses, Golden Hop and would like something different , on a nearby wall we have Honeysucle, Climbing Hydrangia  and more clematis.
we are on chalk, the position is full sun but a bit exposed, I have had annuals there previously ,such as  Spanish Flag, Cobea, Sweet Peas etc but would  like a perennial now.

Any ideas ? Thanks.

Try the RHS website. They will have some good suggestions.

I have a Solanum (potato vine) and it's absolutely rampant over the back of our house, would go up to the roof if we let it and always flowering except in the very coldest of months.

grapes and then you can bottle the fruit after it is pressed - hic!

and no hysteria involved!

Trachelospernum jasminoides.

Wisteria

You can get a perennial sweet pea. We had one for many years which died last year and we're looking to replace it. It dies back each year and then regrows the following spring.

Honeysuckle

I never knew you could get a perennial sweet pea!

Smow - neither did we. We came across one on Salisbury market about a decade a go and thought we'd give it a try. Last autumn my wife potted up a few seeds and we have a few weakly seedlings and we're keeping our fingers crossed as the old plant died over winter.

Thanks everyone, lots of suggestions but will visit Hampton Court Show and see what we find.

Purdie the potato vine looked good but not an option as highly toxic to dogs...I have two spaniels who eat anything!

bhg481 ..we had a perennial Sweet Pea ..it took me several years to get rid of it as it popped up every year.
