She is said to be in a critical condition.  A 37 year old man has been arrested.

Not a kid mixed up in gangs then.   What is wrong with some people?

In 2010, a nurse at Blackpool Victoria Hospital, Jane Clough was stabbed 71 times by her former partner, Jonathan Vass, months after he was charged with raping her nine times.

I wonder if there will be a similar undelying cause in this case?

The Independent is reporting that this lady is in her 50s.  Sorry, I can't post a link.

Thanks LB.

Those that are violent to a and e staff should be kicked out and refused treatment, dont care if they die, they deserve it.

There are few things more ridiculous than people attacking medical staff that are trying to help them.

I'd personally kick them out onto the street and leave them to get on with whatever injury or intoxication they were first brought in for.

A report says an argument over waiting times - but who takes a knife into hospital? Very sad & dangerous world.

//It is believed a member of the public attacked the victim with a bladed article or sharp instrument which was not a knife, police said. //

We need to wait until we know more.  Could be anything at this point.

could be something he found there - hospitals are full of bladed articles

also, ridiculously this person will have made the waiting times even longer.

Very sad, when I read this yesterday I was lost for words and still are.

Noted that details of why etc. are a long time forthcoming.

Expect more of this violence to come. People are becoming less tolerant and more fearful. GPs are a the root cause of such intolerable waiting times. Accident and or emergencies situations cannot wait 12 hours to be assessed. If pharmacists were allowed to given more medication it might relieve some pressure. Self medicating seems the only option. Go bang a pan for help.

Might the waiting times in A&E be caused by junkies and alcoholics rolling up with their self-inflicted wounds and letting loose with their internationally recognised brand of mayhem.

Why are we so afraid to deal, physically, with anti-social behaviour, feeling the need to transform law and order into social work?
